To all StreamingFast users,
We’re excited to share our new lower pricing, and billing simplification at StreamingFast.
Recent Adjustments to Billing for Historical Data
Over the previous months, some users have noticed a reduction in the billed amounts for Substreams received due to their usage of StreamingFast endpoints. The issue stemmed from our billing system not fully capturing Substreams historical data that was being consumed. This discrepancy was resolved in mid-September and we’ve been monitoring it ever since, ensuring accurate billing going forward.
New Simplified Billing Structure for Substreams
Previously, we billed Substreams historical data based on compressed byte size, while real-time data was billed in uncompressed bytes, resulting in a compression ratio of approximately 6x. This approach, we realized, was causing confusion, as many users think in terms of full block size. We also frequently received feedback that our real-time pricing was too high, particularly for high-throughput chains like Solana.
To address these issues, starting November 1st, we will transition to billing both historical and real-time data in uncompressed bytes for Substreams. We’re also reducing our pricing from $0.18/GiB to $0.025/GiB—a more than 7x reduction! While this change slightly lowers the cost for historical data (after adjusting for the compression ratio), it will provide a significant reduction in real-time billing, where data was already billed uncompressed.
These changes apply only to Substreams users, and will not affect Firehose consumers. Pricing will remain at $0.18/GiB.
These changes will apply to all users starting November 1st.
Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in StreamingFast.
